IAI Tenprint Fingerprint Certification
Program
During the 2003 IAI Educational Conference in
Ottawa
Canada,
the following Tenprint Fingerprint Certification Program was
approved by the Board of Directors and voted on by the general
membership. The
newly created Ten Print Fingerprint Certification Board is now
working on implementing the program.
It is the Board’s plans to give the first
certification test during the 2004 IAI Educational Conference in
St. Louis scheduled for
next August. The
application is in development and will be posted to the IAI website
www.theiai.org when
completed. Applicants
who wish to take the test during the IAI Conference must have their
application submitted to the Ten Print Fingerprint Certification
Secretary no later than May
1, 2004. Due
to the space available at the conference, we may have to limit the
number of tests given so you are encouraged to submit your
application before the May 1st deadline. Please review
the below requirements (Link to Requirements Page) before
submitting your application, as there will be no refunds for those
who applied but did not meet the requirements. The Certification fee
is $150.00. Those who
meet the requirements, but do not submit their application prior to
deadline, or cannot attend the IAI Conference, will have an
opportunity to test at the Divisional level after the 2004 IAI
Conference.
For those who have not testified in a court of law
regarding a tenprint identification, we will be holding a limited
number of “Moot Courts” so that they may meet the Section 3 Part IV:
Case Review, requirements during the IAI Educational
Conference. The times
and days will be posted by the Conference Educational
Coordinator.
We are excited about this new Certification Program
for Tenprint Examiners and encourage those who meet the requirements
to consider this opportunity to become IAI Certified Tenprint
Fingerprint Examiners. A word of caution to any of you who may
consider taking this exam, that it is not a proficiency test. It is a test that is
intended to identify the “best of the best”. The exam is designed to test
the applicants’
abilities in fingerprint evaluations and comparisons (from basic to
advanced comparisons), knowledge of the Science of Fingerprints, and
their ability to articulate their findings in a court of law. Those who successfully pass
and receive their certification will proudly hold a title of, “IAI Tenprint Fingerprint
Certified Examiner”.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to
contact any member of our Board. We will be glad to help
answer any questions you may have.
